Banning Liquor Ads
The Liquor Advertising (Television and Radio) Bill state in its overview that the aim was to "... address the problems associated with alcohol advertising by regulating the marketing, advertising and promotion of alcohol products through the broadcast media." It added that alcohol advertising is "..characterized by the association of alcohol brands with desired lifestyle images. The message coming from that is that, if you want to have what it takes, you have to be able to take your drink." Liquor advertising is currently restricted to between 8.30pm and 6am. The bill was defeated at its 1st reading.
